BGreen Family Fun Day at Oldham

British Gas took part in the BGreen family fun day the other week to promote the work completed over the last year and a half. The event was presented by Elliot Eastwick from the local Revolution 96.2 Breakfast Show, with MasterChef champion Simon Wood in attendance to promote the BGreen project!

The BGreen scheme has seen 2,400 residents in central Oldham benefit from various energy efficient home improvements, by a partnership between First Choice Homes Oldham, Forest, Savills and British Gas. ECO funding was provided from British Gas, this allowed the early replacement of the existing gas district heating plant, and energy centre, which was emitting large amounts of CO2 and becoming increasing expensive to operate with the rising price of fossil fuel. This was replaced with a highly efficient Biomass distrist heating system in a new energy centre. British Gas project managed the complete energy centre phase of the scheme.

There was a vast range of residents in attendance and over 30 people spent time talking to British Gas to obtain further information and ask questions about the new Biomass DH system. Questions ranged from fuel supply questions through to more in depth questions about the biomass system set up and its impact on the local community being more sustainable. A large number of people requested a tour of the new plant room and FCHO will be organising this in due course.
